Hotels in Kasauli: A True Heritage paradise

KASAULI IS a place, nothing less than what you can call a Heritage Paradise.

So let me take you on a ride where there is dazzling moonlight and twinkling stars, a place to be lost in and a place, which is surely, a wonderland. This place is so quiet that if you stand for a while, close your eyes and stretch your arms, you will feel you are somewhere in clouds.

A small and beautiful hill station; its beauty cannot be summed up into mountains, tress and water but a place, which is beyond time. It is tucked into Himachal Pradesh and was built by the British. It is still suggestive of the bygone British Raj. When you look at this town, it feels as if you are still in the 19th century because of the cobbled roads, houses with lovely frontage, laden chestnut trees and nice little gardens at every short distance.

The narrow roads of Kasauli slither up and down the hillside and offer some magnificent vistas. Directly below is the spread of the vast plains of Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh, which as darkness falls, unroll a stunning carpet of twinkling lights.

On the Kalka-Shimla highway, Barog is a must see, surrounded by pine and oak forests. The Choor Dhar Valley, which poetically translates as the wall of the silver bangle', is clearly visible from Barog and when moonlight washes down its snow covered slopes, it seems as though thousands of icy, silver bangles are sliding down in the night.

This beauty of god is ruled by the army, so to say, which doesn't allow new constructions. And that is what has saved Kasauli from becoming another of those concrete jungles. Very few hotels are available and most of those are old heritage stuff with renovations.

For this reason, it is better to book your hotel room in advance even in off season and especially if you are going on a weekend. Therefore, this summer if you want to go to a place that is naturally beautiful and peaceful, then Kasauli is the Perfect destination for you. So pack your bags!

Best Time to visit Kasauli

The temperature sometimes goes below freezing point.

The best season to visit would be April to June and September to November. The highest point at Kasauli has been taken over by the Indian Air Force. It commands a panoramic view of the hills, valleys and plains. The best thing you can do in Kasauli is go for long, leisurely walks, specially the 4 km walk from the bus stand to the Monkey point, which also has a temple dedicated to a Hindu divinity.

The second best option is a walk to the Christ Church on the Upper Mall Road. And if you are bored of long walks, you can have a stroll at the Mall Road where you will find some unique things to take home.
