Types of Inflatable Boats: Play Boats

Play boats are those flimsy, colorful and artful small inflatable boats made of soft and unreinforced vinyl or PVC plastics. These inflatable boats are "toys" and are to be used solely for fun and play in supervised areas such as in a swimming pool, and in the shallow waters of a beach or a lake.

These play boats are in abundance in the local Kmart, or toy store and even in the shelves of grocery stores and supermarkets. There is no limit as to where you can source for a play boat especially when summer is here. Priced between $25 to $100, these play boats can come in solid colors, with prints of favorite cartoon characters or a combination thereof. Some come with a matching inflatable tube. Some come with an inflatable hood shaped like a coconut tree or a beach umbrella. Designs are varied and more often than not, dotting parents and grandparents buy inflatable play boats so they could enjoy them too.

Though these inflatable play boats are only "toys" and should not be seriously considered as a life raft or even a dinghy, they are fun! Colorful and bright, these inflatable play boats are good enough for the kids (and adults) to enjoy as they go about their merry way in shallow water. Though there are types that come with outboard brackets, this type of inflatable boat lacks the rigidity to carry even the smallest outboard. Rowing or paddling this inflatable play boat for even a short distance could be quite frustrating too. It is best if the kids stay on the boat while mom and dad kick hard in the water for the boat to move.
