Some kids seem to want to change their rooms all the time. As a child I was always rearranging my room, moving my desk and bed to different alignments, placing new posters on my walls or wanting to paint them different colors.

It's no surprise that kids want to do this. A child's room in one of the few places that kids feel like they can really control, especially if they feel powerless in other areas of their life. Although they can't drive a car or decide where they want to live they can influence the look and feel of their own room.

If your child is unhappy with the current look of their room, you don't have to make extensions or repaint the walls. Adding fairly inexpensive decorative elements can make a huge difference to the decor and to the overall feel of the room.

Elements like bed covers, lamps and floor mats add character to a room and can help kids feel like the room is their own space to express themselves. They are generally affordable options that make a huge impact.

A bed takes up a large part of a bedroom and provides a perfect palette to start revamping a child's bedroom. Replacing an old quilt cover, comforter or sheet set on your child's bed can lift a room and breathe new life into the space. Matching drapes can often be added to enhance the theme of hte room.

A desk or bedside lamp is another area where small changes can make a huge difference. As a major source of light in the room it draws the eye and with numerous colourful and quirky options can be one of the ways kids can express their character easily.

A floor mat takes up alot of space in the room. Having an old or dull carpet or mat can really bring the mood of a room down. Replacing or covering dull carpet with a bright or distinctive mat can help kids feel like the room is their own space.

Redecorating a room doesn't necessarily mean spending alot of money. By making small but distinctive changes, you can really help kids feel proud of their room and themselves.
