subject: PILES (BAVASEER) AND UNANI TREATMENT [print this page]

PILES are haemorrhoids. The term is obtained from the Greek words 'haema' which means blood and 'rhoos' which means flow.

Hippocrates defined piles as disease of the external covering of the anus and rectum which occurred due to bad blood and black bile. He mentioned that the dietary factors played an important role. There are two types of piles, external and internal. In the external as the name suggests, there is protrusion of mass on the anus while in internal piles the affected area is inside the anus. It usually affects people who have a diet rich in fact spice, meat, brinjal, cauliflower. Those sedatary habits can also be affects.

There will be pain and itching around the anus along with bleeding. Bleeding may occur before or after defecation. In chronic cases there may be a discharge from the mass of piles. The very first line of treatment is to avoid constipation by eating a diet which would help in free bowel movements.
