Koreas World Famous Boryeong Mud Festival!

Each year, the Boryeong Mud Festival attracts over 80,000 international visitors, making it Koreas most popular festival among non-Koreans. Last year it was recognized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports & Tourism as one of the best festivals in Korea. This year the festival will run for nine days (July 17th July 25th) at Boryeong Citys Daecheon Beach in Chungcheongnam-do Province. Boryeong mudflats have a high concentration of Germanium and a host of other minerals that are said to be great for the skin. The festival celebrates the famed mud (and the fun of summer vacation!) with a variety of lively events like mud slides, mud wrestling, and mud massages, leaving visitors covered from head-to-toe with healthy mud. With festivities running day and night, the Boryeong Mud Party is a fun-packed beach party thats sure to be the highlight of your summer!

Main Activities

From fun and exciting mud-themed activities, to various forms of mud beauty therapy, there are always plenty of great programs to choose from.

Start your day of mud-covered fun by passing through the Mud-Fog Tunnel at Mud Square where youll get the equivalent of a mud shower. Or, visit the mud fountain which sprays muddy water at passersby during set times throughout the day. After youve had your first dip in the mud, move on to the air-bounce slide or the mud pool slide, where you can slide down into a giant pool of mud. Make sure you dive into the fun as soon as you get to the festival grounds; those without any mud on their body may get locked up in mud prison!

On the roads circling the beach, there are a variety of programs perfect for those looking for a physical challenge. Visitors can ski down tidal flats or even participate in a rigorous simulation of military training, which takes place on a 10km-long obstacle course (scheduled at 11:00, on July 24). Visitors wanting to commemorate their time at the mud festival can make a ceramic item or a festival character out of mud at the event booths. There is also a photo zone where you can take pictures with a mud-covered mannequin.

Must-Do Events

Mud Sunbathing

For those visitors who enjoy sunbathing on the beach, mud pools will be available at the parasol stands along the beach. Spread mud all over your body, wait for about 10 minutes until it dries and turns white, and then wash it off. This is thought to be very good for your skin.

Mud Pool Slide

Dive down the mud-covered slide and plunge into the mud pool at the bottom. If youre already covered in mud before you take your turn, youll go down the slide even faster. There is also a mud pool slide exclusively designed for young children.

Giant Mud bath

Jump in the giant mud bath and join in the mud madness.

Major Auxiliary Events

Take a break from your mud bath to watch the festival parade, the yacht parade, or the performances of the Mud Festival Mascots: Muddori and Mudsuni. A special city bus service is available during the festival, so that visitors can easily travel to the various festival destinations located along the Boryeong Mud

Nighttime Festivities Guide

A grand opening ceremony will take place on the special stage at Mud Plaza, the main venue.
