These days kids are either overweight or underweight, dealing with underweight problem is much easier.

It's not difficult to figure out why our kids are overweight, as parents it's easy to know the answer.

Family eating habits is one of the main reasons, kids are fuzzy when it comes to food and surprisingly they like junk and processed food more and as parents we find it easier to solve the problem with processed and fast food, it saves us time especially if you are a working mums.

Here what I suggest we practice to give our kid a healthy life style.

No eating in front of TV. This is a very bad practice we allow it at home; taking meal should be on dining table. I don't think we enjoy our food when we are focusing on TV, weight loss experts believe that people who watch television while eating also tend to be unaware of how much they eat, which encourages overeating. According to Baylor College of Medicine research overweight kids ate 50% of their meals in front of the TV, compared with 35% for normal-weight children.

Dinner for family get together. All family members must have dinner together, to talk and have fun once a day; even if a family member is not hungry you should make it a habit to attend dinner. This table talk will help family members understand each other and bring them together and enjoy eating food. This practice also makes it easy to introduce new healthy food and encourage family members to try it. When I see my brother eating greens I will be tempted to give it a try.

Don't allow kids to eat after meal if they did not finish it. If kids don't take their meal because they are not hungry then they should not eat anything later on.

Let your kid know that we have bad and good food.

Let your kid love their food and enjoy eating it.

Let your kid participate in preparing food. Learning cooking is the easiest way to try new food.

Teaching kids eating greens. One of the practices that helped my kids like greens is gardening. We planted cherry tomatoes in our back yard and this was the start for my kids to like tomatoes and then we planted lattice, my kids like gardening and they feel great when the tomatoes are out.

We spend quality time together and have fun, it's also a great time for me to relax and release my stress.

Not all kids and adults like the plain taste of greens, to enhance flavor you can create dips for raw or steamed vegetables and with dips you will have many ways to make your kids like eating greens.
