-Manic Symptoms: These include uneasiness, restlessness, an energy boost, excitement, and stimulation, running thoughts, excessive or uncontrollable feelings. Hence, the person becomes crazy and making grand and attainable plans. An impulsive behavior overtook the person in bipolar manic symptoms.

-Depression Symptoms: Unlike manic symptoms, depression symptoms are far less in intensity, the person feel sad, gloomy, lonely, loss of energy, anxiety, increased sleep, lost decision making power, hopelessness, and full of self loathing.

It is often observed that the manic phase always occur before depression phase. The history of moods shifts is associated with the bipolar patients. Diagnosis of the disorder is possible as soon as the manic phase would identify. It is possible to diagnose the disorder only when the manic phase occurs. It is not necessary to have both phases to diagnose the disorder.

Treating Bipolar Disorder

The treatment of the bipolar disorder is based on long term plan. Patient has to take medicine for a time after which they feel that they do not need any more medication. The most common treatment for bipolar disorder is a long term course based on two drugs, i.e. lithium carbonate and carbamazepine. These drugs do have side effects as well. There are other treatments like EPA and high EPA (essential fatty acid supplements). These supplements have the tendency to keep the mood in stabilize form without much shifts.
