How To Go About Registering A Dog

Knowing that registering a dog is not obligatory, a dog owner may not take the trouble to register the pet. Registering or not registering the dog will not make a difference to the enjoyment, companionship and entertainment you will have for choosing to have a dog for a pet.

A kennel club registration certificate will not be important for a dog as this pet will remain affectionate and loyal to the family even if it is not registered. Taking time to register the pet though is important as you may think of breeding the dog someday. Registering the dog to a kennel club would qualify the pet to be mated with another purebred. When a puppy is purchased the breeder should provide the new dog owner with a Dog Application Registration form as this will be needed in case the owner decides to register the dog.

Dog registration is not obligatory but breeders of purebred dogs have to register the dogs. Owners of companions dogs would not think of registering the pet. Not many owners are aware of the benefits they can get if the dog is registered. A dog owner is not unlike a proud parent that would be more than pleased at the success of the pet. A dog owner would brag about the rosettes and blue ribbons awarded to the pet and of course for a dog to enter kennel club events registration would be necessary.

You can register your dog in the American Kennel Club or in the United Kennel Club. The registration process can actually be done in minutes but an owner has to submit some requirements before the dog can be registered. The American Kennel Club for instance requires three generations of verified parentage. Additionally, the sire and the dam as well as the litter must be registered by the breeder too.

Puppy buyers must be provided with Dog Registration Application form by the dealer. An owner can choose to register online or to complete a paper copy of the application form. The name of the dog, the gender, the color and markings, the signatures of the owners of the rest of the litter as well as the name, address and signature of the owner of the dog being registered must be supplied. After the form is submitted and the registration fee paid, it normally takes several months before you can receive the registration certificate that will be mailed by the kennel club.
