How To Be Alone At Christmas

If you are alone at Christmas, do not be depressed. You are not alone. There are many people who spend Christmas time away from either family or friends or simply have no one with whom spend the holidays. It is okay. There are a few things that you can do that will help you enjoy this special time of year regardless of being apart or alone. Remember what it is that Christmas celebrates and focus on the meaning of the holiday season to keep the joy alive.

Being alone and being lonely do not necessarily go hand in hand. When you get right down to it, we are all, always alone within ourselves. We are apart, a separate entity from anyone else. We can hear ourselves inside our heads. When you think about it, you very often think to yourself throughout the day. This is you enjoying the duality that each of us has. It is that personal relationship that we enjoy with ourselves that puts us apart from any other creature. At the risk of sounding weird, take your alone time and use it to get to know yourself. You might find that you are better company than you think.

If you were once part of a family, chances are that you miss the little things that most of us take for granted. When a child receives a letter from Santa, it makes them happy and gives them a little joy. You can give to others by writing a letter from Santa and sending it to someone you know that has a child who could use a little joy. Writing a Santa letter for a child is a great way to make both you and the child happy. There are groups that you can join or you can start one that will write Santa letters to children who need one and give back to the world in a small and yet meaningful way.

With the internet comes connection. We can now connect with people all over the world and share with each other at almost any time of the night or day. These social groups are everywhere on the World Wide Web and can be easily found by typing social groups into any browser or search engine. If you feel the need to reach out to another human being during the holiday season, you have friends that are just a few mouse clicks away and you do not even know it. If you do already know this and belong to some of these groups then you are not really alone.
How To Be Alone At Christmas

Some people enjoy being alone and would not have it any other way. Others do not want to be alone and have no choice. There are a few people who see being alone not as a time for self pity and loneliness, rather, they see it as an opportunity to get out in the world and make new friends. They see a chance to go and connect with other people. In a world as big as ours, made smaller by the internet, it is not hard to find other people who are reaching out. Being alone affords you the opportunity to help those that are not good at being alone so leave yourself open to others and you might be surprised at what you will find.

Remember that Christmas is about the joy and lost hope turned to hope found. It is a birthday that the entire world is celebrating at the same time. Take the time to celebrate it in your heart. Speak to your higher power about what you are feeling. Start or finish a project. Catch up on your reading. Do what makes you happy to honor the occasion and remember that you are not alone.
