The Differences Between College Towns And American Cities

What is the difference between college/university towns and simple towns or cities? Of course, there are differences, as college/university towns are connected with science and education. But a town/city is just a place to live. People do not live in New-York just because all of them need to go to one college or university.

A college/university towns are specially organized places for people who work or study at a college or university. So what are the distinctive features between college/university towns and real American towns/cities?

1.The only reasonable transport in college and university towns is a bicycle. College/university town is not so large to have another kind of vehicle. If you want to go to the library, all you have to do is to cross the street and enter the library doors. In real American cities the traffic is too crazy. If you spend ten minutes staring at the road, you may see all possible cars of the USA. Consequently, the air is clearer in college and university towns than, for example, in New-York.

2.The stuffing is also different. You may find restaurant with all possible cuisine in New-York. But you can hardly find any restaurant at the territory of a students town. There is no even need to speak about various cuisines: only national American hamburgers in cafes.

3.The territory of a college/university town is crammed with specific establishments as libraries, gyms, dormitories, canteens, and clubs. Are you sure that you can find them all at the territory of one square kilometer? Probably, not. They are built for the students purpose.

Nevertheless, all these towns and cities have their own advantages and disadvantages. If you are a student you may choose a college/university town. If you have already graduated, you may choose "New-York".
