Last Chance to Grab an Autumn Break in Favourite Med Resorts

There's still time for holidaymakers to grab some last-minute sunshine on the Mediterranean as autumn kicks in. Most children go back to school this week, meaning that it is the end of the expensive peak season and there are plenty of holidays available for those looking to get away in September and October.

The Mediterranean and beyond

Hays Travel have hundreds of deals in their summer sale to destinations all over the Mediterranean and beyond, but these next couple of months will be your last chance to visit many resorts until next May!

"Many resorts stay open all winter," says Emily from Hays, "But others close down completely from the end of October to the beginning of May. If you're looking to go to a Greek Island, for example, now is the time to grab a late deal!"

Indeed, many purpose-built resorts close their restaurants and bars for the winter months and although it is not impossible to reach the Greek Islands during this time, direct charter flights from the UK do stop at the end of next month.

Turkey - a popular Holiday Hotspot

Another area that has proven to be extremely popular with UK holidaymakers this summer is Turkey, and although some resorts along the warmer Antalya coast stay open all year round, tourist hubs like Marmaris and Bodrum tend to be pretty much closed for business after the end of October: These next few weeks could be your last chance to enjoy a great-value holiday to this beloved destination, with its fantastic choice of all-inclusive, self catering and bed and breakfast accommodation.

"September and October are also a great time to embark on a Mediterranean cruise and we have got some fantastic deals on some really exciting itineraries."

As temperatures in the Mediterranean begin to dip, most cruise lines start to take their ships on Caribbean, Canary Island or even Red Sea cruises, so September and October are a great time to grab a last chance Med cruise.

Dealing with the School Holidays.

If you're not travelling with school children, don't leave it until the last week of October for your bargain break, as you could find that the prices are very high.

"For most parts of England, the last week of October is a school half term break. This, coupled with the panic for people to grab a last week away in their favourite summer resort means that demand is high and it can be difficult to find a cheap holiday," says Emily, "If you aren't travelling with children, make sure you book a holiday that departs before the last week of October."

Of course, if you can't get away before 31st October, all is not lost. November onwards is a great time to get a long haul holiday bargain to a tropical destination such as the Caribbean, South East Asia and the Indian Ocean. If you don't want to go quite that far, there are still plenty of short haul resorts open year-round: Mainland Spain, The Canaries and Cyprus to name a few. A little further away but fantastic value-for-money and great for good weather is Egypt, where UK tourists flock to the Red Sea beaches.

"Don't panic if you can't go away before the summer season ends," says Emily, "There are so many exciting destinations to visit that stay open and warm throughout the winter months and November and December can be the best months of the year to grab a travel bargain!"

Because so many people spend November and December preparing for Christmas, there are fantastic deals to be had on pre-festive getaways, so this is the perfect time to head for sunnier climes.
