subject: Staying In Shape When You're On A Budget [print this page]

Joining a gym or purchasing exercise machines can be pricey for those that are on a limited budget. There are a number of ways to stay fit and improve your health without financially overextending yourself.

Becoming healthy and getting in better shape should relieve you of stress and worry, not add more to your life. It is easy to feel like you need to purchase an expensive gym membership, hire a personal trainer, and buy new workout gear and clothing to get in the best shape you can.

However, there are a great number of ways to become fit without breaking your bank account. If you do think that joining a gym is the only way you will have access to fitness equipment and be able to work out, then take advantage of group or discounted memberships.

You can purchase a membership for a smaller price if you enlist other friends to sign up with you. This is great for both you and your peers, because you will all have the benefit of being able to exercise at a gym while paying a discounted membership price.

If you cannot find anyone to purchase a membership with you, you do have other options. Many gyms offer partial memberships.

If you only wish to use the gym area or only wish to participate in classes, request information on discounted rates. There are also always a number of individuals that, due to certain circumstances, wish to transfer their memberships to other people.

Browse through classified ads or websites, either local or international, for other people that wish to get rid of their memberships. Though you may not have the flexibility of choosing the specific gym you wish to use, you can find extremely discounted memberships as well as those who are willing to transfer theirs for free.

If you live in an area with nice weather year-round, why spend time exercising in a gym? Utilize hiking, biking, and running trails outside.

They usually offer interesting sights, beautiful scenery, and they are free! Many local parks also have areas designated for exercise, and build pull-up bars and other types of equipment that you can make use of and do your strength training on.

Create a schedule of daily cardiovascular exercise out of doors, whether it is running in your neighborhood, hiking through a park, or biking on designated mountain trails. For strength training, browse classifieds or a second-hand store for dumbbell and weight sets.

Much of the items sold this way are still in great condition. Most second-hand stores refuse materials that cannot be used or are severely damaged.

If you wish to purchase home fitness equipment, but are worried about the cost, you could also research them in the classified ads or discounted websites. Many fitness equipment companies also offer online coupons and promotions to save you money.

Be sure to read the reviews on the different types of equipment and price match. If you research thoroughly, you are sure to find great machines for a lower cost.
