Festivals in Austria

Every year there are number of music festivals will take in some of Austria's major cities. The biggest in the world that is also the most famous of these is the one that is known as Salzburg Festival. This year it runs from the 26th July until the 29th August. The first concert took place night to open the festival and it was the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra that played with Daniel Barenboim conducting them.

Another important music festival that takes place each year is held in Vienna and is the Haydn Festival. This year the event takes place in September between the 9th and 19th of the month. Throughout the 10 day festival a number of concerts will take place some in the morning and some in the evenings. The locations where these events will not only be in Vienna but also in the city where Joseph Haydn the composer lived and worked called Eisenstadt.

Of course if you wish you can arrange to get tickets for these festivals before you travel to Austria on holiday. But in many cases you will find that purchasing them when you arrive in Austria will actually save you some money. This is because you won't be charged a booking fee by the agent that you purchase them through.

Whilst you are visiting Vienna you may also want to include a visit to the world famous Spanish Riding School. This is now over 400 years old and is located in Hofburg situated on the outskirts of the Austrian capital. You can if you wish drive however there is a good train service that can take you to this attraction as well.

It is important that you arrange to visit the school on a Sunday morning if you can. Generally most Sundays you can watch a performance of these beautiful creatures. Usually the performance begins at 10.45 am so make sure you arrive early to get a good place to in the seats surrounding the school. Also as getting tickets to watch the performance can prove difficult you are best advised to actually write directly to the School at least 6 months prior to your visit to ask for them.
