Gps Personal Locator

A GPS locator to some may seem a bit intrusive; though if you ever find lost yourself in a back country area, you will be thanking your lucky stars, if you have a personal locator on your possession. There has been a multitude of people who have found themselves lost, deep within the wilderness. Sometimes you hear about the miraculous stories of how they managed to get help despite the odds stacked against them or how rescuers were able to locate the individuals during a search and rescue mission. Though sadly, these stories are the exception, that's why they make the news. With a GPS personal locator you greatly reduce the odds of a prolonged rescue, being found too late or never being found at all.

A lot of cells phones are coming equipped with GPS technology. This advancement in technology is extremely beneficial to rescuers. People can find themselves in back country for several reasons; hunters, mountain climbers, hikers and number of outdoor activities for extremists. If you find yourself in the unfortunate position of being lost in a back country location, you may only have a small moment of consciousness to activate the personal locator button; and thankfully that is all you need. Rescuers and emergency teams will be able to pinpoint your location within a matter of feet.

In the past, rescuers would find themselves in the position of needing rescue themselves, as they spent hours upon hours in remote areas. It goes without saying, that when the rescuers need help, that it makes it much more difficult to find a lost and possibly wounded individual in a timely manner. If the individual doesn't have access to food and water and/or is in danger because of harsh elements, such as below freezing temperatures or scorching heat, then rescuers have to race against time to locate the individual before it is too late.

A GPS locator uses satellite technology that takes away the risk for both the rescuers and the lost. Not only is there the risk factor, but this technology also saves thousands of dollars and other resources that are used to locate missing persons. There is currently a push by those who work in the search and rescue field, to pass law to where every back country visitor will be required to purchase a personal locator. As stated, you can purchase a cell phone with a personal locator or you can opt to purchase a GPS personal locator device separately. The costs of these devices are very affordable and if you shop around you will be able to find different makes and models offered at competitive prices. Depending on your activity and location, personal locators are available to rent.
