Choosing The Right Kids Halloween Costume And Halloween Mask That Is Safe For Your Child

Believe it or not, there are several dangers associated with kids Halloween costumes. Despite the fact that these cute and sometimes plain out frightening pieces of clothing are the highlight of the Halloween holiday, several children have been injured while wearing the outfits.

As your childs protector, you need to know what dangers may be contained in these harmless and fun looking costumes, purchased for children every year when Halloween comes around. If you know what dangers exist, though, you'll know what to look for and what to do so that these situations won't happen and your child will be safe.

In this article, we'll talk about some of the most common dangers that can be present in kids Halloween costumes.

One of the most important dangers of Halloween costumes, especially in regard to kids, is that many are not fire retardant. Although many manufacturers are jumping on board with fire retardant costumes, not all costumes are designed thusly.

Again, your child depends on you as his or her parent or guardian to make sure that the Halloween costume you buy is in fact fire retardant. If you do not think thats important, consider this: Many Halloween activities include fire in them -- innocently, to be sure, but they can still make a situation dangerous. It is very common, for example, to have activities like bonfires, cookouts, flickering scary candles, marshmallow roasting, and so on. Because this puts fire in close contact with your child, it can be very easy indeed to simply have a costume catch fire accidentally. And if the Halloween costume is not fire retardant, your child can be engulfed in flames before you know it. Therefore, make sure the kids Halloween costume you buy is fire retardant.

The next issue that is relatively common that results in accidents at Halloween among children are costumes that do not fit appropriately. Typically, Halloween clothing is purchased despite the fact that it is too large or too small. This includes the Halloween masks that often come complete with the costume.

Masks especially should be given special care and attention. The one you choose should not be too big, and your child should be able to breathe, smell, talk and see very easily. If you are at all in doubt, face paint is an ideal substitute for a Halloween mask that may not fit properly.

When it comes to clothing, the child should not experience a limited range of motion. They should not wear costumes that drag on the ground. These types of clothing may results in accidentally trips and dangerous falls.

You can see that kids Halloween costumes do indeed have potential dangers, but if you know what to look for and avoid, your child will not have to experience any of these dangers.
