Rarotonga Resorts - The Perfect Holiday Destination

If you know you need a holiday but are unsure of where to go, perhaps you should consider booking into one of the many Rarotonga resorts located in the Cook Islands. Imagine yourself, in just a few short hours, going from the dreary New Zealand winter rain and cold to warm and tender air, coconut trees, white sand beaches and an ocean that is ready for you to swim and relax in.

Staying at one of the many Rarotonga resorts is the perfect way to keep those winter blues at bay, with a big dose of sunshine to pep up your spirits and break the monotony of the winter months. You can find resorts that offer everything you could possibly want while on holiday: an on-site restaurant and bar, free snorkelling and canoe gear, scooter hire, massage and beauty treatments plus impressive swimming pools. The regional areas of Rarotonga inlcude: Nikao, Arorangi, Tupapa, Matavera, Ngatangiia, Titikaveka, Muri Beach and Avarua (the town centre).

If you are in a relationship, it's the perfect way to spend some quality time together. Rarotonga is a well-liked wedding destination and it won't take you long to see why - you may even see a few weddings taking place on the beachfront. Rarotonga is also a fantastic holiday destination for the whole family. There are plenty of activities for the kids to enjoy and you can even find resorts that offer daily entertainment and shows for the kids to enjoy.

People often think an island holiday is an expensive option, but with affordable package deals available, it often works out to be less expensive than a domestic holiday. You are not so tempted to spend up large in big department stores, but rather enjoy as much of the free island amenities as possible such as the beach and lagoon. Enjoy fresh seafood at one of the many restaurants spread around the island. Treat your taste buds and stop at a different restaurant or cafe for each meal of the day, a few recommendations include:

- Blue Note Cafe

- Cooks Corner Cafe

- Edgewater Resort Brasserie

- Flame Tree Restaurant

- Kikau Hut Restaurant

- Metua's Restaurant and Bar

Motor bike and scooter hire is a popular way of getting around the island. You can scooter around the whole island in under an hour or longer if you stop off at various craft markets and fruit stands along the way. You can get a temporary scooter licence from the local police station - be prepared to do a short test, where an officer will follow you around a short driving course to make sure you know what you are doing. While wearing a helmet is required by law, it is virtually ignored by both the locals and tourists.

The only problem with going to Rarotonga and staying at one of the resorts is leaving them after your holiday is over! If you are anything like most people, the biggest issue is not how to get there, but how you can then pull yourself away once you've arrived.
