Choosing A Personal Injury Lawyer

Hiring a personal injury lawyer for your injury case is one of the best things you can do to get the money you deserve to cover everything you lost from a car accident, but it is not a decision you can take lightly. There are a lot of factors involved that should influence your decision on which Seattle auto accident lawyer to hire, so it is important not to make a rash decision based on an ad you saw in the Yellowpages or on TV. Here are a few key characteristics to look for in a lawyer to help determine who to hire.

Specialized Experience: Law, like most other professions, has very specific fields that people become experts in by focusing on. Personal injury law is one of the many fields, and requires an attorney who understands that type of law and how to best deal with insurance companies. These kinds of cases are all I do, and I have a lot of experience fighting them. When you seek the representation of a lawyer, make sure that they have a history of fighting cases similar to yours and have attained successful results. For injury cases, it is important to veer away from general practice attorneys, because their knowledge base is broad, but spread thin. Injury and accident cases are best handled by attorneys that have dedicated their entire practice to them.

Continuously Furthering Their Education: It is my firm belief that law education does not stop after law school. In fact, there is a lot that can be learned through various seminars and colleges that keep lawyers up to date on strategies and information that wasnt part of their law school training. There are a lot of options out there for lawyers to do this, so there is no excuse for an attorney to not experience with some sort of further education. Along with the practical benefits, expanding and honing their craft through learning more about it is a good sign of dedication to their work. This can translate into a lawyer who will show that same dedication to your case.

Attentive to You and Your Case: A lot of lawyers out there rely entirely too much on their paralegals and case managers to do the bulk of their work for them. When you hire a personal injury attorney, you should be getting the services of that attorney, not just his or her staff. Make sure they have a history of seeing clients cases to the very end, and will do everything in their power to get you what you deserve. Watch out for lawyers that are part of what I like to call a personal injury mill, meaning that they accept a lot of cases and settle them so fast that they cannot get as much money for their clients as they should.

Personality: You may not think so before entering into an agreement with a lawyer, but ask anyone who has been in a case that lasted a long time, and theyll tell you that personality is the most important trait of a lawyer. Not only is it something that will tangibly help your case with a jury, but it will make an oftentimes long and stressful process much more bearable. If you trust him or her, and like their personality, then the legal process will be much easier on you.

Before you hire a lawyer for your case, make sure they meet each of these characteristics. Realizing that you made the wrong decision halfway through the process is a situation that nobody every wants to be in. If you can be pretty certain that an attorney you met with does meet every item on this list, then you will have likely found very good representation for your case.
