Hidden Holiday Places of Europe!

Visiting the old continent may sound like a dream come true. For years, films have shown us a glamorous and sophisticated Europe, where you can find some of the most gorgeous landscapes and exquisite cuisine. However, these facts are not entirely true. There are a lot of downers when it comes to a holiday in Europe.

Let us begin with their cuisine. Most people believe that food in Europe is gourmet and exclusive, nonetheless, London has been voted by many tourists as the city in Europe with the worst cuisine. Europe's cuisine is way over-rated, and for that very same reason it is charged more than it is worth.

That doesn't mean that you can't have a great holiday in Paris, for instance. On the contrary, it's a great city and you'll have great fun there. But you'll also find that it's busy with other tourists and you might like to try some new places, rather than keep returning to that city. So where should you go instead? It really depends on what you're looking for when it comes to having a great holiday, so let's look at some options.

If you want to see some great scenery then you'll be spoilt for choice in Europe. Norway certainly takes some beating, although visitors to Iceland might disagree. In both countries you'll get to see that colder climates can still lead to great holidays.

Spain and Italy also have an enormous amount to offer. When many people think of Spain they tend to focus on the crowded coastal resorts. Although many people love to visit such resorts, if you want to visit the real Spain then it makes sense to head for the interior. Once there, you'll find small villages that have hardly been touched by tourism.

In places like Italy, the laws can be quite different to what you are used to, thus you may end up paying large sums in fines, for doing something that is legal in other places of the world. For example, walking on the streets with an alcoholic beverage is considered to be illegal. Furthermore, sandcastles are illegal in some places of Italy.

Most European payphones do not have coin slots. They only have calling cards slots. So in the event of an emergency, if you do not have one of these cards, you can be in serious trouble. Plus, payphones are used as public toilets, they are dirty and smelly, and very difficult to find, since there are not many.

Great scenery can be stunning, but you may also want to visit places where you can find a lively atmosphere in the evenings. The city of Galway, in Ireland, might make an excellent choice. Located close to some of Ireland's most spectacular scenery, you can spend time in the city and experience some of that country's world famous hospitality. As you can see, there's no need to stick with the same old holiday resorts. Take a look at a map and try and pick out some new locations. Holidays are a great way to relax and to broaden your horizons.
