The Truth About Injury Claim "Farming"

You may already be aware of this, but many of the Injury claim lawsuits that are filed every year are "farmed." This is a strategy employed by injury claims organizations. This scheme entails spending a lot of money to market your "business," a la your legitimate injury, to soliciting legal firms. All that they do, essentially, is take your issue and match you up with a lawyer who is willing to defend you; of course, they take a cut of the legal fees associated with your settlement. This is a somewhat controversial business, as some people might view it to be similar to predatory lending, as you are obviously a mark for income that can be siphoned from.

What you need to remember about "farmers" is that they do not actually help you to negotiate or settle your injury claim. In fact, they are not legally able to do so since they have no legal licenses whatsoever. Obviously, then, they are neither qualified to represent you either. They cannot even speak to the other parties involved in order to set up restitution or garnishment, regardless of your situation or the result. Again, all they do is market your "business" to legal firms who can then elect to take your case based on the payout they think they can earn.

Filing an injury claim in this way can help you if you are completely at a loss regarding how to find a lawyer. This is precisely what "farmers" prey on, the ignorance of people outside the legal system. While it can be very difficult and even intimidating to try to find a lawyer on your own, there are many other firms that can offer you direct access to lawyers or counselors who can then give you direct advice. If you can find your lawyer this way, it will often save you time, money, and energy.
