The Tribeca Film Festival has announced its Closing Gala Premiere, Freakonomics, a documentary based on Steven Levitt and Stephen J. Dubner's bestseller "Freakonomics: A Rogue Economist Exposes the Hidden Side of Everything." The movie is a veritable supergroup of some of the top documentary filmmakers of the past decade, including many Oscar winners and nominees. The book which spent two years on the New York Times bestseller list is being brought to the screen by directors Alex Gibney (Taxi to the Dark Side, Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room), Morgan Spurlock (Super Size Me), Rachel Grady and Heidi Ewing (Jesus Camp), Eugene Jarecki (Why We Fight) and Seth Gordon (The King of Kong).

At the same time, the festival has announced that Summit Entertainment's summer romance film Letters to Juliet starring Amanda Seyfried and Vanessa Redgraves, will premiere at the 9th annual film festival, as will My Own Love Song, the first English language film from Olivier Dahan, director of the Oscar-winning 2007 film La Vie en Rose, a road comedy starring Forest Whitaker and Rene Zellweger, and featuring original music from Bob Dylan.

You can go to the official site for more information on tickets--ticket packages are now available--and stay tuned to ComingSoon.net as we provide our eighth year of coverage on the festival.

The eighth annual AFI-Discovery Channel Silverdocs Film Festival takes place from June 21-27, 2010, in Silver Spring, Maryland. The 2010 festival program includes 102 films representing 54 countries selected from 2,162 submissions. There are six world, one international, three North American, five US and 10 east coast premieres, plus six retrospective films and an outdoor screening.

Silverdocs 2010 opens with Freakonomics, which shares its name with the best-selling book upon which it is based, and is directed by a team of a-list directors -- Heidi Ewing and Rachel Grady, Alex Gibney, Eugene Jarecki, Morgan Spurlock and Seth Gold, and brilliantly edited by Douglas Blush, Tova Goodman, Sloane Klevin, Nelson Ryland and Michael Taylor -- all of whom contribute to the whole, a stunning creation of cinematic synapses. With its all-star filmmaker team, Freakonomics is a designer label documentary that's destined for wide distribution by Magnolia Pictures at an as yet unspecified date, supposedly later this year.
