Cut Costs And Make Your Own Halloween Decorations

If you're throwing a Halloween party or expecting some ghoulish trick or treaters at your door, you'll want to put up some Halloween decorations to set the scene. Instead of buying decorations from the store, you can save some money and make your own. Here are a few ideas for suitably spooky homemade Halloween decorations.

Here's an idea to make people think that there are wild animals in the bushes around your house. You will need a string of red Christmas lights and some 35mm film canisters. With the canisters facing you, drill two holes on each one to create the eyes. Now string the Christmas lights through your bushes and place a canister over each bulb so that the light will shine through the holes. To make it stay in place, put a piece of tape over it. Should you be using white lights, cut a small piece of red cellophane wrap and put this over the lights to create the impression that there are wolves behind the bushes.

If you'd like to decorate your yard with tombstones, here's an easy technique to follow. You will need some Styrofoam, a can or two of gray spray paint and a marker. Cut the Styrofoam to the desired size and height, spray it with the paint and then use the marker to print a suitably spooky name and epithet for a dead person. When you are finished, position them around your yard.

Spiking the punch bowl is probably something you did back in college but for Halloween, people will surely laugh when they see a hand inside. All you need is a plastic glove; fill it with water, seal it and freeze it. When it's solid, drop it in the punch bowl to give your guests a jolt.

Halloween just isn't the same without a pumpkin and this is the simplest and most classic of homemade Halloween decorations. Scoop out the contents and put a candle inside - nothing could be easier. There are even pumpkin carving kits you can buy for a very reasonable price to help you make truly spooky faces.
