Kefalonia Holidays: Your Guide To The About Things To Do On The Island

The islands of Greece are amongst the more popular holiday destinations in Europe. One of these islands hasn't really hit tourists' radar and that island is Kefalonia. I want to go through the reasons why you might consider Kefalonia holidays. You then have the chance to go before everyone is heading over there.

The island of Kefalonia isn't one of the largest in Greece and its population of between 45,000 - 50,000 demonstrates that. The large majority of people live in the capital Argostoli. After tourism, animal breeding and growing olives are the most popular occupations.

The island is different from other islands in that it is quieter. Kefalonia holidays are not about partying, they are about relaxing. Some of the great Greek beaches are here and it is home to the famous Myrtos beach. Many postcards from the other islands have this beach as their main feature even though it is not from there.

Kefalonia holidays aren't only about beaches; you have a lot of culture too. That shouldn't come as a surprise to you given Greece's history. There are ruins dated back to the 1st century B.C. and ancient burial sites. If you want to learn about culture then this is a great place to do it.

People who love nature will love Kefalonia. You might get to see an endangered loggerhead turtle if you are fortunate. It is an amazing sight to see one of these on the beach. The island also has lot of caves that you can visit and many mountains to climb.

The accommodation is as you would expect for Greece. Most are basic apartments but are very clean. What makes a lot of these places great is that they are run by families so they are very eager to please you.

I would hope that I have given more of an insight of what Kefalonia holidays are about. It should be a very enjoyable experience and don't forget the sun block!
