subject: Forehead Wrinkles Treatment: Surgical And Natural [print this page]

Wrinkles are like a dreaded disease that all of us would not want to have. Forehead wrinkles, in particular, make people especially because they are closely associated with worry and distress. Most people would spend a fortune to just stay young and look young.

How exactly do these creases form and how to prevent them? Wrinkles come with age and whether we like it or not, there will really come a time when our skin will crumple and sag. As we grow older, collagen, the protein connective tissue that supports our skin, starts to degenerate resulting to the loss of skin's elasticity. Aside from aging, too much sun, poor diet, smoking, drinking alcohol and stress are the other major causes of fine lines and wrinkles. The sun's ultra violet rays, toxins, pollutants and free radicals cause great damage to the skin and therefore should be avoided. Stress, on the other hand, causes chemical reactions inside our body which also causes skin's collagen to shed off. Cortisol, the "stress hormone" is activated and injected into the bloodstream damaging the collagen tissue and takes away the skin's natural suppleness.

Before you even think that wrinkles are a hopeless case, here are the common treatments and preventions of wrinkles or "worry lines:"

First on the long list is the traditional surgical face lift. Notwithstanding the fading popularity of this type of treatment because of the huge amount of investment involved, it still remains an option for some people. Aside from being the most expensive, this type is also the most risky. This surgical procedure is designed to erase the most obvious evidences of aging by draining excess fats, tightening the muscles beneath the affected skin and removing sagging skin. A perfect facelift can take five to ten years off your actual age and make you more attractive.

Botox, the brand name for the cosmetic form of botulinum toxin, is also a popular non-surgical injection that temporarily eliminates or reduces frown lines, forehead creases and crow's feet. However, botox will not be able to respond to wrinkles caused by sun damage.

Laser resurfacing is a relatively new treatment for reducing facial wrinkles and other skin irregularities, such as acne scars and blemishes. The lasers used could be carbon dioxide or erbium, and which remove thin layers of the skin with minimal heat damage to the surrounding structures. Recovery time from this procedure is up to two weeks.

Anti-wrinkle creams and lotions are what other people, who either can't afford or are afraid of surgical procedures, resort to. It would be best, however, not to be fooled by advertisement because not all types of skin respond to the same substance or product. Consulting with an expert will not hurt and will even guarantee optimum result with the use of a cream that's perfect for your skin type.

Eating healthy foods like fresh fruits and vegetables are also vital to a proactive approach in wrinkle prevention. Fibers from these foods will help eliminate toxins from the body, resulting to a glowing skin.

With a combination of any of these available treatments and preventive measures, we can say goodbye to forehead wrinkles and crow's feet. It is best to start young and be proactive, though. The saying which goes ""an ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure"" applies to wrinkle management.
