Bridal Shower Etiquette For Destination Weddings

Bridal Shower Etiquette for Destination Weddings

Times are changing, and couples are holding so many different kinds of weddings its hard to know what the proper etiquette is anymore.

So, should a bride still be entitled to have a bridal shower if she is planning a destination wedding? I believe the answer is YES! as long as it follows the normal customs of a shower. Wouldnt you want to shower your friend with gifts and well-wishes before her big day?

It is customary that a close friend, maid-of-honour or bridesmaid host and plan the shower. Normally, a relative of the couple would not host a shower as it is considered rude to ask guests for gifts for their child, sibling or family member. This includes parents, sisters, and cousins anyone who is related to the bride or groom.

Another rule to follow is to only invite guests to the bridal shower who have also been invited to the destination wedding otherwise it just looks like a money-grab. If someone has been invited to the wedding but cant make it (which happens a lot with weddings away), they can still be invited to the shower. In fact, it would be a nice way for them to celebrate with the bride.

After following those two rules, I say have fun with the rest!

Why not host a themed shower based on the Caribbean - full of fresh fruit, lush flowers and reggae music? Are the couple honeymooning in Italy? Offer a shower with wonderful food, full bodied wine and red checked table clothes. The ideas are endless!

Plan a special day so the bride-to-be can let her hair down and enjoy some much-needed time with her favourite friends and family before the big trip...down the aisle!
