Large Stuffed Toys & Creative Play

Large stuffed toys are great for a child of any age. While the very young aren't quite big enough to be able to play with them as they're meant to be played with, as they grow up, they won't have any problem making their large stuffed toys their favorite.

In the first half of the 20th century, commercial child-centered toys became all the rage as toy manufacturers urged parents to fill their children's lives with these 'things' that seemed to give them great joy. Kids cherished their toys stuffed animals, dolls, bikes, board games, and yo-yo's, to name a few. What children chose to play with and the meanings they attached to these objects, became somewhat more complex than parents or toy companies had realized. Toys were used as rewards (for celebrations and holidays) by both parents and other family members and affection would often come out as the expressed gratitude for receiving them. All of these toys, however, were used by children in a variety of independent ways that adults had not anticipated.

In the eyes of a child, toys, especially large stuffed toys, are chock full of many meanings. While it's true that simple objects found in a child's environment can be transformed into playthings that can go on to bring up loads of powerful memories, commercial toys like stuffed animals, have their appeal too. Young children could never fully grasp the deep meaning associated with objects like commercially produced soft toys, but through the combination of their imaginations and the fun that's generated from playing with them, an important effect takes place that often only a child can understand.

Children should be given the ability to play freely, especially when it comes to large stuffed toys. Unstructured play gives a child the freedom to do what is most satisfying to them. And, when it comes to playtime with large stuffed toys, there's just no other way to go.
