PGA Tour Gets Younger and in Better Shape

As we head into Ryder Cup week for pro golf I've decided to travel up to Madison, Mississippi to cover the many Small and MicroCap names on the PGA Tour. I like this event because it is a bit smaller than normal PGA events and you get to see more how the vendors for the tour interact with players.

Some of the information the press gets revolves around theme, and fitness is a much bigger part of the PGA Tour and Golf than it was 20 years ago. Young players hit the ball further and the athleticism of players comes thru directly in the earnings. This is not justthe younger players, as The Champions Tour is kicking off some cash, players who turn 50 crossover to boththe PGA and Championtours and anyone who plays knows it's about conditioning day in and day out in golf. The tour is getting smart by partnering with various vendors.

DePuy Mitek, "The Official Mobile Health and Fitness Provider of the PGA TOUR and Champions Tour," sponsors the TOUR's mobile fitness and therapy centers. The facilities are staffed by professional physical therapists, chiropractors and athletic trainers who assist players in rehabilitative and preventive care, as well as personal conditioning programs.

Through the new sponsorship, the four trailers two on each Tour also have been totally renovated with new state-of-the-art fitness and therapy equipment, as well as new interior designs. Reflective of the popularity of the traveling facilities among TOUR members, a committee of players including Tom Pernice, Jerry Kelly, Charles Warren, Zach Johnson and Stuart Appleby helped select the new equipment. The highly popular mobile facilities features DePuy Mitek's ORTHOVISC brand, an FDA-approved non-drug therapy for osteoarthritis of the knee that helps people manage knee pain for up to six months. The trailers also point golfers and non-golfers who suffer from knee pain to educational resources that can help them address their pain. Check in with the trainers during tournament week to see the different types of workout routines that players are using to add flexibility and length off the tee. At many events, there will be an ORTHOVISC expo booth where fans can get a free photo posing with the FedExCup.
