There are a wide variety of fine lodgings available in Ft McMurray when touring the Athabasca Oil Sands and Plants

When planning a tour of the Suncor and Syncrude Plants, the choice of Fort McMurray hotels offers a wide variety of lodgings. Built around the Athabasca Oil Sands, Fort McMurray, a modern day boomtown, has more than doubled in size in the last 12 years, and the growth has also been evident in Fort Mac hotels, several of which have just recently opened.

Because of the high demand, you won't find any real bargains, and it is wise to book your room quite a bit in advance to make sure you have one. Relatively inexpensive hotels for the area include Rusty's Best Canadian Motor Inn, the Super 8 Motel, part of the well-known chain, and Vantage Inn, which offers special rates for booking early.

The largest of the Ft McMurray hotels is the Sawridge Inn and Conference Center. 190 rooms, all of which include the standard business traveler amenities including wireless internet, built around the indoor swimming pool and lounge. On the other end of the spectrum is the Chez Dube Country Inn, a fourteen room bed and breakfast surrounded by a garden and backed into the Riverfront Park. It allows the guests to feel like they are in the country, while only a couple of blocks from Franklin Ave, the town's main street.

Many Ft McMurray hotels are designed for long term guests. Rooms at Fort Mac hotels such as the Franklin Suite Hotel and the Clearwater Suite Hotel come with kitchens, laundry facilities and an iron & board. They also have lower rates for longer stays.

There are several other Fort McMurray hotels to choose from, including chains that you might already be acquainted with, such as Radisson and Merit. Or independents like The Twin Pine Motor Inn, one of the oldest in Ft McMurray, whose claim is to "Keep the customers happy with friendly service."
