Moving Your Boat Or Yacht Down South By Capt. Douglas Malat

Do you want to extend your boating season? You can very easily by moving your boat or yacht, powerboat or sailboat down South for the winter. In the Northern regions the cold weather comes in with the ice and snow which prevents you from taking your boat out for a cruise. Bringing your boat or yacht to the Southern regions extends your boating season to really, that's right... year round. Slip prices for your yacht or boat down South in most areas very reasonable. They start at about five or six dollars a foot per month and of course go higher from there as per the amenities. If you're taking a slip with a boat yard or marina, the amenities can be endless compared to a private slip on a canal behind a house. You can actually move your boat or yacht just far enough south, where you could take a few hours drive down to your yacht or if your boat is further south you may want to take a plane for that long weekend stay or during your vacation.

Enjoying your boat during the winter is definitely a treat. The savings that you'll get between the costs of slip rental in the South and winter storage in the North can be quite a difference. No winter haul-outs or winterizing your systems are necessary. You don't have to de-winterize, take off the cover, etc... just extend and enjoy your boat or yacht more! There may be other factors that come into play that make the savings a washout but, enjoying your boat in December, January and February in a pair of shorts is something a winters' dream is made of. North Carolina and South Carolina have great prices on slips, as well as Georgia and Florida. It just depends on how far south you want to go. You can take your boat or yacht by land or sea to get it there, and once there, enjoy the new scenery and that extension of your season to the whole year. Bringing your boat down south and back is also a trip of a lifetime...don't miss out! There's plenty of information about boat slip rentals and "how to" by searching "boat slips down south" on the internet. This will get you started, and with this information, maybe you'll want to do it this year or next.
