A day at the zoo
Everyone loves a great day at the zoo. It is a great place where you can take your kids to get out and about and learn about animals. A good idea before planning your visit is to find out when there are special events happening at the zoo you may want to attend. There are often free shows and special events for kids during school holidays too.
Its a good idea to get to the zoo as early as you can so you can get a chance to spend as much time as you want there and wont miss out on anything thats happening.
Zoos and aquariums usually have a special interactive section for the kids. Make sure you check out this area if they have one.
A visit to an art museum
Its best to visit a museum which has an interactive play section. Questacon in Canberra, is great for kids of all ages. Be prepared to spend up to 2 days in a centre like this.
Often art galleries such as the MCA offer free kids workshops in the holidays so its a good idea to find out what events they have on.
Watch a movie at the cinemas
Watching a movie in 3d is the new craze. Whilst its a bit of gimmick for the kids, the younger kids up to about 5 years, find it a little disruptive to have the glasses on all the time, so keep this in mind.
Its probably best to go mid morning to see a movie. That way the kids have the rest of the day to play outside and also if you have little ones that need a nap, they will then go down to sleep.
A day at the beach
This is great for the warmer days. Pack the sunscreen, beach umbrella, food and drinks and youre set.
Just remember, the kids will always get sand in places you never knew existed in their clothes, so unless you dont mind having another beach in your car, its probably a good idea to take a change of childrens clothes with you.
Sometimes beaches dont have a tap to wash down feet close by, so you may want to take a couple of water bottles and leave them in the car. Use them just before you jump in.
A bush walk and picnic
There is nothing like a good bush walk and a picnic. Its great for the warmer days, but also good for the older kids who dont mind the cold during winter. Be sure to pack plenty of sunscreen, water to keep hydrated and food.
