subject: Kids Halloween Party – Don't Make It Hard For Yourself? [print this page]

A kids Halloween party will bring loads of joy to the kids but can be a big headache for parents. You don't need to make it hard for yourself though. There are some things that can do to make your party a joy and a pleasure for yourself and for the kids.

These are my top seven tips for holding a successful party that both the kids and you will enjoy.

1. Number of Guests - Be sure to give this some consideration. You only want to invite a number that you will be comfortable with. Having a kids Halloween party with fifty kids is fine if you can actually handle catering for this many kids, supervising this many kids and entertaining this many kids. If you can't you will want make this number much smaller.

2. Invitation The invitation to your kids Halloween party will tell if there is a theme for the party. Also make sure that it specifies a start and finish time.

3. Decorations These are always fun for the family to create together. Halloween decorations need to be planned well ahead. Involve the whole family and have as much decorating as possible done by the day before. This will leave you time on the day for other things.

4. Extra Supervisors Your kids Halloween party will be much easier if you have enough helpers. Ask some of the guests parents to stay and assign duties. This will alleviate the need for you to be responsible for everything. It will also give you extra eyes to keep watch on what is going on.

5. Games Plan games that will keep the kids busy and active. You can also plan a few quieter games to help settle them down. Have extra games planned as some may not take as long as think and you might be left with excited, active kids with nothing to do. It won't matter if all games aren't played as long as you have a few extra ones up your sleeve if needed.

6. Food The best approach for food is to keep it simple. If you do want a few interesting things that may take longer to prepare do this well in advance. Try to keep food preparation during the party to a minimum. Have it prepared beforehand so that all that needs to be done at the party is heating and serving. You will also want to include some healthy treats that might be disguised as interesting Halloween themed items.

7. Movies A great backup plan for running out of games or kids getting too active is to have a Halloween movie ready if needed. Choose something age appropriate and for younger children check with parents if your choice is suitable.

Your kids Halloween party is sure to be a huge success if you spend a little time on the planning. Involve the whole family and enlist helpers and you will end up enjoying it as much as the kids do.
