Themes Make Baby Shower Planning Easy

Baby showers can be a lot of fun for the expectant mother. They can be both fun and stressful for the hostess. In the hopes of having a pleasant, memorable party for a friend or relative, planning the event requires creativity and organization.

Themes

The easiest way to throw a shower is to create a theme. Think about what the new nursery may look like or pay attention when the mother-to-be is discussing how she wants to redecorate the room.

Themes for baby shower decorations are helpful in choosing table cloths, plates, napkins, streamers and party favors. An ensemble that matches gives the room a festive atmosphere and organized look. Start off by using invitations that fit the theme.

Letting the guests know beforehand what the theme will be is always helpful. This gives them hints and baby shower ideas about what to bring as a gift. While the hostess should include on party invitations where the expectant mom is registered for gifts, making a note of the theme is even more informative.

Different theme ideas may include cartoon characters, such as Mickey Mouse, Winnie The Pooh or Dumbo, or center around television shows like Sesame Street, Bob The Builder or Dora The Explorer. Another way to create a theme is simply with objects. Trains, animals and balloons are easy to find in decorations and gifts, as well.

A simple boy or girl motif is easiest if the mother-to-be knows what she is expecting. Multiples can have a theme of their own. Twins or triplets, for example, can be tied in to any type of decorations. For a hostess that does not know the guest of honor well, this is an easy choice.

Decorations

Often the person planning the shower will include familiar friends from the same group, such as church, work or school. As a result, manufacturers of decorations, yard signs and gift registries have designed products especially for these groups and their occasions.

Color schemes are an important part of decorations for a baby shower that does not have a theme. While the standard pink and blue pastels are always popular, more recently, bolder colors have appeared on the scene. Choose the colors by the mother's preference or perhaps what colors the newborn's nursery will be.

As planning progresses, hostesses should concentrate on centerpieces, banners and centerpieces for the baby shower. Once the planning is complete and the event has arrived, the day should be one for the memory books, so don't forget the camera.
