Travel To Varadero - A Tropical Getaway

20 kilometers of virgin white beach flanked by pristine turquoise water and one of the best beaches in the world, Varadero in Cuba is a tourist retreat like no other. Not for nothing has this tiny peninsula at the northernmost tip of Cuba attracted travelers since centuries. First used as a dry dock (Varadero in Spanish) by the Spanish fleet in the 16th century, it started life as a city in the 19th century and quickly grew in size as visitors discovered its charms. Currently, it hosts more than 500,000 tourists annually. So if you are looking to get away from it all, you must travel to Varadero for a week of self-indulgence.

It is quite easy to get there. There are direct flights to Varadero's Juan Gualberto Gomez International Airport from North and South America, Europe and the Caribbeans. One can also come by boat and dock at either Gaviota, Chapelin or Puertosol Darsena de Varadero marina. Hotel accommodation in different categories is easily available, with several prominent names like Iberosta, Melia and Sandals having set up shop in the town.

Once settled in, you can start enjoying the Varadero experience. If you can manage to tear yourself away from the beach, this tropical paradise offers you the exotic Bellamar Caves to explore and the natural beauty of the Parque Josone to experience. If you want to sample the local cuisine, there are numerous options ranging from the beach vendors to posh restaurants. If nightlife is your thing, then you can't miss out visiting the Tropicana Matanzas, the most famous cabaret in Cuba. And yes, the famed Cuban cigars are also available.

Visits to the seaside town of Cardenas and the "city of bridges" Matanzas should be part of every tourist's itinerary. As should be the Santa Elvira Church and the El Patriarca cactus of 600 years vintage. The night is young in Varadero with numerous discotheques and bars. You should definitely drop in at the Continental Cabaret and the Rumba Palace. For a taste of old-world charm, the Habana Cafe should be your preferred destination.
