If you are from an English speaking country, imagine what it would be like to move to a new country where the language you have learned since birth (English) is not spoken. Not knowing how to speak the native language of the new country you live in will affect you in many ways. Besides not having good job opportunities, the lack of English also effects people now living in English speaking countries on a more personal level. To fit in the the community and develop relationships outside their immediate circle of friends, having good English Skills is vital. To be able to have a conversation about a subject takes a lot of skill, but knowing how to simply say "hello" does not. Think of yourself in this situation. You live somewhere that you can not have a normal conversation with your neighbor. That is a situation that is faced by many people that are new immigrants to the USA, Great Britain, Australia, etc.

The great thing is, there are so many available resources to assist those in this situation. If they have access to internet, there are thousands of websites that will help them with there English for free. A simple search for the term - free online English lessons - will bring thousands of results. If the person wants help with a particular type of English (American, Australian, British), they should be able to find it on the internet. These types of websites assist people improving their English in their own home and avoid being embarrassed.

Another option for people in this situation is to contact their local government in their new country. Many governments offer free English classes where they can study with others and develop friendships with others in the same situation.

The most important thing for people who are still struggling to speak English in their new countries is to make a commitment to themselves to improve. When these non-native English speakers do improve their English proficiency, a new set of employment prospects open up. Improving their English skills also allows them to make deeper relationships with people who only speak English.
