Infant Swing – Features You Need to Look for When Getting One for Your Childs

An infant swing is one of the things that a household with a baby should have. It is a place where you can put your baby to put it to sleep. It rocks the baby to and fro so you do not need to always do that yourself. Now there are models that also allow movements from side to side. But before you buy one for your baby you need to know the important features that you should look for.

First, look at the built in strap. See if it is strong enough that your baby will not be able to yank it off but not too strong that it will feel uncomfortable. Try to find a swing with a five-point strap. It secures the baby in important areas like the shoulders, waist and crotch.

Then check if the base is sturdy. Like with many other devices, the broader or wider the base is, the safer it becomes. If what you will buy is the foldable swing, make sure that the frame can be locked safely. Check all locking mechanisms carefully.

Also look for sharp edges in and out of the swing. You do want your child to get scratched, do you? Make sure that the edges of the seat are all smooth.

See also if the seat cover can easily be removed. Seat covers can easily be soiled so you should have one that can conveniently be removed for easy cleaning. It is both for comfort and for health considerations. Check also if the seat can be reclined in different levels. The two basic positions are the fully reclined position and the upright position. Look for an infant swing that allows these two positions plus one or two more in between.

Check if there are loose parts. Loose parts are potential choking hazards. Possible loose parts are knobs, screws and other pieces that are put there either as designs or accents or as essentials parts of the swing.

If you intend to bring the infant swing outdoors look for the model that has a canopy. This is to protect your child from over exposure to the sun. It also protects from strong winds or falling objects.
