Dating Attire

Dating is stressful enough without having to worry about what you're going to wear. You don't want to look like you're trying too hard but you also want to look great. Here are a few tips to help you out.

1. First dates:

First impressions tend to last so the outfit you choose to wear on that first date kinda matters more than the rest will. First dates are all about trying a person on. You're in the driver's seat; you're seeing whether the other person fits you just as much as they are. Being comfortable and cool is therefore of the essence and this most certainly applies to what you wear. Once you've been out a few times it is totally acceptable to be overdressed for a casual event or underdressed for a more formal one, but until then dress accordingly. If he is taking you to a pizzeria for dinner wear jeans and a top, and gentleman, you do the same.

2. Day dates:

Spending time with someone new during the day is always nice. There isn't the same kind of pressure that exists on an evening date, where venue, outfit and alcohol tends to cloud peoples judgement. Ladies, unless you float on heels like Carrie Bradshaw, I suggest you keep it comfortable in flats. If it's summer, go for a peasant skirt, cute top and flip flops or shorts, a tee and pumps. If it's winter, skinny jeans, boots and a trendy sweater or blazer will do the trick. Gentlemen, you don't need to show up to a Saturday lunch in a suit. If the venue is chic show up in jeans, loafers, a dress shirt and a sharp pair of cufflinks. If it's more casual, jeans, trainers, a graphic tee and a couple of fun bracelets are all you need to say 'I'm comfortable and cool'.

3. Romantic soirees:

There is something sexual about evening air. These dates usually involve live performance, sultry food and cocktails. Take advantage by adding a sexy flair to whatever outfit you've chosen for the occasion. What does this mean exactly? It means that ladies can throw those heels on and wear a form fitting dress if that's what the evening calls for. If you're off to a rock concert however, pair your dark, studded biker look with smoky eyes and red lips. It means that men can and should add a sports jacket to their chic day-date outfit or a cool jacket and some nice cologne to their casual day-date look.

The most important thing when dating is to be yourself. No matter what you choose to wear make sure that you feel comfortable and that you're accurately representing what you're all about.
