Online stores might not have had as much potential for expanding their domains in the past as they do now.Large number of online stores in India have opened up, selling branded products from all around the globe be it the best designer labels, entertainment, or technological gadgets. With an increasing interest shown by people towards buying things online, many of the franchises, including the online clothing shopping store RetailMart, have found their way into social media. Social media provide an excellent platform for online stores to advertise themselves.

Since social media has now become a channel that can be accessed through cell phones and another devices featuring remote access, the concept of online shops and online shopping has become a virtual living planet possessing its own resources. Facebook allows franchisees to create their own space on social network platforms, where they can have enough space to build their online store, stack up products for sale, gain popularity points, and update users through regular feeds.

Although the online shopping in India has not reached the heights of its foreign competitors, the future of it looks rather promising. A recent survey showed that more than 50% people rely on social media to access shopping sites to purchase goods. As far as individual products are concerned, books, with 41%; airline tickets and reservations, with 40%; and electronic equipment with 36%, rule all online purchases.

So, how does socializing cater the growth of shopping online? Studies have shown that 71% of Indians rely on recommendations from their family, 64% on friends, and 29% on product reviews when deciding on an online product purchase. With the effectiveness of social media in deploying tools that enable more social interactions, discussions, and an exchange of ideas, online sales have ramped steadily.This new concept, called as social shopping, combines two of peoples a favourite activities social networking and online shopping. People post review products, get the word out, and the market starts rolling.

More and more people are joining online social channels everyday. The market is feasting on online social networking websites, and with portals such as Facebook and MySpace, the future of online shopping looks to be in secure hands promising rapid, and steady, expansion.
