Why Women Hate To Have Their Car's Oil Changed

Most women wouldn't send their husband to the fabric store if they were making a new quilt or skirt. Why Not? For many men, a trip to the fabric store would be the equivalent of a trip to another planet. They don't know the language, the tools, the needs, weight, amounts needed or any idea what goes with what. The same often holds true for women having to have their oil change.

Now of course, these are stereotypes. There are men who quilt and sew, and women who change their own oil, but for the rest of us, let the women who sew hang out in the fabric stores, and the men tootle around in the car shops. If you are one of the women who doesn't know a carburetor from a shock, a trip to the car shop is daunting at best frightening at worst.

You are sitting in the waiting room when a mechanic comes out holding a part that used to be attached to your car. With a long face he tells you it needs to be replaced, the consequences of not replacing could be dire. He says this with the same face a doctor might wear when telling a patient that they have incurable cancer. The cost? Around $100.00, is always around $100.00. He tells you another part is also on its fritz, but can probably wait until your next oil change but the part he is holding might break on the freeway when you are driving with the kids. You quickly envision being stuck on the freeway with a carload of children. It's a risk you can't afford.

After forking out the $100.00 and the cost of the oil change, and recycling fee you ventur home feeling sick and taken advantage of. When you relate the following story to your husband over dinner, he tells you that part didn't need replacing and if it did, you could purchase it at the auto part store for $20.00. You have been suckered again! Not knowing much about cars, nothing about their parts and less about when what needs changing, it is intimating, overwhelming, and frightening to take your car in for repairs or oil chances. You feel helpless, vulnerable and out of your comfort zone, things no one enjoys!

So, if it is all the same with you, let the sewers go to the fabric stores and the car people take the cars in for their oil changes! We will all feel better at the end of the day.
