The media provides a common platform to everyone to exchange views and ideas. The childrens vocabulary is increased by reading newspapers, apart from developing a learning habit. The educational programs and historical files being broadcasted on television and radio provide great educational benefit to the children. In fact there are some channels which are specially designed for the kids entertainment. Along with the entertainment, these programs also contain educational values. When children are exposed to news channels or newspapers, they develop an interest towards political happenings also.
Though television and the media industry have a lot to offer to children, they also have their negative impacts. Studies reveal that too much exposure to television or internet harms the attention span of the children. Moreover, the violent scenes that children encounter in the media tools affect their psyche. Children become more inclined towards violent acts when they watch these on televisions or on computer. About television, its the most passive medium. It is observed that children, who spend a good portion of their daily life watching television, become ideal. These in turn affect their health as well. Children often suffer from obesity because of the lack of physical exercises. The days when children used to play outdoor games have become a dream. Its not that children should not be exposed to media, but as parents we should control the watching habits of our children so that they can leas mature, responsible and disciplined lives.
