Mobile Marketing another way of marketing which has taken heights and gained much popularity. Actually, there are two ways to send text messages SMPP and SMTP. Although, there may not be much difference on the surface but there is much difference. There is difference in the way to send the text messages from a mobile marketing platform or subscribers mobile phone. When you go in search for a text marketing partner, you will find many companies providing unlimited text messages included offer.

The company providing unlimited text message packages sends the text messages using SMTP or SMTP Relay Services. By using SMTP a company sends the text messages through an email gateway on the cell phone carriers network. However, in SMPP the text messages are transferred through SMS network. This method is designed for sending and receiving text messages and has been approved by cell phone carriers.

Lets now view the major differences between SMPP and SMTP Relay Services mobile marketing.

Speed- The first difference is on the basis of speed. Actually, the text messages take a very long time to reach their destination when sent through SMTP Relay Services. Whereas, using SMPP the text messages are sent through SMS aggregators with a speed of 500 text messages in a second. When the text messages are sent by this method, you can be sure that your messages will reach the customer within minutes and soon they will be read.

Cost- When you send text messages through SMTP; all you need is a simple website and email server. All the arrangements can be done in few second and in addition the company will not have to bear any cost for sending the text messages through SMTP Relay Services. However, when the messages are sent through SMPP the company is required to create a software and it is essential for the software to interact with one of the 9 SMS aggregators which handles all the text message traffic. After the software is developed there is an approval process which takes place for around 8-12 weeks and during this period the cell phone carrier has to approve the company and short code for commercial usage. But in SMTP there is no such requirement for approval process. The SMS companies are required to make payment for every text message sent, connectivity and output to make sure that the messages are sent to every consumer at highest speed.

Reliability- The cell phone carriers make continuous changes in the SMTP Relay Services email gateways so as to restrict the companies from sending text messages to their customers. The companies which using SMTP for sending messages are not informed about the changes; it is only when the clients complain they come to know about it. And when the messages are sent through SMPP no such problem occur because the companies using this method work with SMS aggregators which are in direct connection with the cell phone carriers.

These were the differences between SMPP and SMTP or SMTP Relay Services and if you want to start a mobile marketing campaign then it is beneficial to use SMPP.
