Don't Know The Bride Or Groom: I'm Here For The Wedding Chocolates

There's a reason why consuming chocolate is the best way to recover from a dementor attack: it just makes you happy. When life seems to suck all the joy out of living, chocolate is one thing that will not let you down. From ancient times, men and women have had a love affair with the unassuming cocao bean.

Chocolate is a wonderful way to spread love and joy throughout the known universe. Who doesn't like the gift of chocolate? There are few presents that surpass personalized chocolate gifts or handmade candy. A new car might do it, or perhaps a cruise to Scandinavia, but only if chocolate is also involved in the package. Why do the best hotels put a chocolate on your pillow? It's obvious. They know how much you've paid for the room, and they also know that you won't feel like you've gotten a great deal until they sweeten it with chocolate.

But there is a difference between chocolates. On the surface, one bar may look much like another, but a small nibble is all you'll need to begin to distinguish quality from the uninspired. The ingredients in the finished chocolate really do matter, and when the finest possible chocolate liquor, milk, sugar, cocoa butter, and a little soy lecithin (for texture) are put together, you've got a winning product. Superior chocolate will be smooth, melt easily, and range from bitter to milk chocolate. As you train your palate, you'll be able to distinguish higher quality chocolates from inferior swill.

The best quality chocolate takes time and attention to every detail. Only the finest roasted cocao nibs will be pounded into submission, turned into chocolate liquor, and finally added to a chocolate maker's vision of perfection, whether it's delicate, bitter, sweet, tangy, scented with herbs and tea leaves, or given the zip of hot peppers. There are chocolates to suite any preference in the world.

Once you've tried superior chocolate it is hard to recover your taste buds to a point where they can put up with an inferior quality chocolate anymore. Whether you've tasted divine perfection in a selection of handmade wedding chocolates, or found the subtle nuances hidden within a delicately spiced rum truffle, it's too late for you. You can't turn back now.

But why should you? Enjoy life. Enjoy chocolates. Don't eat too many, but do indulge sometimes. And when you do, make sure you have the best. The next time you feel overwhelmed and stressed out, take a moment and talk it over with a lemon tart souffle creme or a dark bourbon-cherry silk. You'll be glad you did.
