subject: Conventional Shopping Vs Online Shopping [print this page]

Technological advancements have definitely made the lives of people more comfortable and easy than it was earlier. The world of shopping saw revolutionary changes with the coming of the internet and the paraphernalia. Online shopping has opened up new possibilities which is the reason why it has become much popular than conventional shopping. Surveys show that people prefer online shopping for three main reasons and that are convenience, time saving, and comparison-shopping. Well, there is no doubt about the fact that online shopping is preferred by most shoppers but by no way it means traditional shopping has lost all of its glory. Some shoppers still enjoy going out to shop or to do window-shopping. So what is best traditional shopping or online shopping? Lets weigh them both and then take the pick.

Traditional Shopping

Before the invention of the internet, traditional shopping was the only way to do shopping. But at that time, nobody really cared about how boring or exciting it was, as they had no other choice. People have to go out and visit stores to buy anything and everything.

The most important advantage of traditional shopping is that the shoppers can buy things after seeing, touching, trying and checking be it clothes, electric appliances, jewellery or footwear. As for clothes, jewellery and footwear, shoppers can even try it on before making the decision. They can try different sizes, colors, brands and choose the one that best suits them. Moreover, the shoppers can pay by cash or through credit cards.

The greatest disadvantage is that traditional shopping is a time-consuming process. In traditional shopping, the shoppers have to wade through traffic, stand in overly long queues, rummage through piles of clothes and hunt for discounts and offers. And by the time shopping ends, the shoppers would be completely exhausted.

Online Shopping

The discovery of the internet provided a choice for the shoppers who were dead tired of traditional shopping.

In online shopping, the shoppers can do shopping from the comforts of their home. They need to browse online for products or services and pay online. That is it and the shopping is done. No traffic, no queues nothing. Just click and the product would find its way home. For instance, with diwali coming near, online shopping would be the apt way to buy diwali gifts for loved ones. Shops would be as usual overcrowded and hence, it would be difficult to buy the perfect gifts. In online shopping sites, you would be overwhelmed to see the different diwali gift ideas, discounts and offers.

The greatest disadvantage is that the shoppers cannot check the products before buying it. They have to make a decision just by seeing pictures of it. Therefore, there might be instances where the products shown on the sites might not be the one they finally get on hand.

Since both have its own pros and cons, it largely depends on the preference of the shoppers.
