subject: Getting The Most Out Of Your Doctors Visits [print this page]

Routine visits to the doctor is something that most people feel they can do without, but the fail to realize how important these routine visits really are. Routine is something that most people do, not because there are issues, but just because they are routine. Nothing serious, specific nor is there a chief complaint. It is however a very effective fact gathering expedition concerning your health and will assist in finding out information about the true state of your own body, its functions and is a spring board to improve your overall health.

Smart routiners know the true value of the routine visits and is very important to the quality of their health and this is much the same way the health care professional views this time with their patient. They actually look forward to taking off the healer hat and assume the role of a health proactive coach which lets them step outside of realm of a normal day at work to one that is helping the patient stay healthy on their own.

From this perspective your doctor can help you assess not only things like your weight and unhealthy habits but they can also let you know how your genetics will factor in as well. Through blood work and a series of routine questions and a thorough exam a doctor can find out information about blood pressure, diabetes, cholesterol levels, and can help you asses these numbers and your risk factors to help determine what steps you will need to take to improve your overall health.

It is sad that most all the people without health insurance is at a great disadvantage of not getting annual visits, plus the tests because they can be some really expensive out of pocket expenses that most people simply will not spend. This is one very good reason for having health insurance, not just because it makes these medical services affordable, but it could be the encouragement that many people need to take a closer look at their health.

Anytime you can be proactive about your health and meet with your doctor and consult when you are asymptomatic is best. This allows you to gather the information you need to get healthy and to maintain that health throughout the course of your lifetime. It is for this reason that many consider those who are living without health insurance to be at a disadvantage because they will only visit a doctor when they have symptoms or a health crisis which denies them the benefit of using a visit to the doctor as a proactive step towards health.
