Karina Smirnoff Postpones Destination Wedding

Karina Smirnoff, one of the professional dancers from the U.S. TV series, Dancing With The Stars, has postponed her wedding to baseball player fiancee, Brad Penny.

Like many other celebrity couples who have joined in the trend of destination weddings, Smirnoff and Penny were considering Cabo in Mexico for their romantic nuptials.

A close source told U.S. Weekly that the couple has postponed the wedding due to both of their conflicting schedules but they are planning to spend some more quality time together.

The source said: The wedding has been postponed. They are still together, but have conflicting schedules.

The 33-year-old dancer from Ukraine is partnered with the former All My Children actor J.R Martinez for the TV show and the pair has been doing well so far in the competition.

Smirnoff told Access Hollywood: You know, its true. My whole attention right now, everything were doing is for Dancing With the Stars and for J.R.

She added: Im on such a high this season that I wouldnt want to take anything away from the wedding, or from this experience. Theres time for both.

Penny and Smirnoff announced their engagement at the end of last year after the Detroit Tigers baseball star proposed to the dancer in October with a 4.5 Asscher Cut diamond engagement ring that is reportedly worth $95,000.

In an interview in November last year, Smirnoff said: I want a destination wedding where everyone can go to Cabo. We're thinking January the seventh.

However, January came and went and the couple have now put their weddings plans on hold until their schedules quieten down.

Many celebrity couples are opting for destination weddings in exotic locations with Caribbean weddings scoring high among the favourites due to tropical weather, luxury venues, and breathtaking natural surroundings that include white sand palm fringed beaches, lush green forests and turquoise warm ocean waters.

Weddings abroad are not just popular with the rich and famous as the trend spreads to nations across the world. According to recent research, one in five couples in the United Kingdom are choosing to get married overseas in romantic destinations such as Hawaii, the Maldives, Caribbean, Italy, Greece and Spain.

With the average UK wedding costing nearly 20,000, a wedding abroad can often be the cheaper option as couples limit their wedding guest lists, and many hotels and resorts offer special wedding packages, with some even throwing in free honeymoons.
