At the age of 26 this Air Rifle shooter made it into the limelight of the sport world. With well settled head on his shoulders, he takes his targets down with a calm mind. Starting at the age of 14, the prestigious VII G. V. Malvankar Shooting Championship at Phillaur, Punjab in '97, where, in the Junior men's category, Gagan secured an astounding 11th position, and championships under the same banner in Asansol, Ahmedabad and Chennai in consecutive years.
Even though the odds were tough, Gagan Narang made his way into the competitions with the hard work and talent that was encouraged by his parents and the whole family.
Despite such odds, Gagan has shone at various international competitions such as the 44th National Shooting Championship at Phillauri, Punjab where he ranked 16th in the juniors category; the 45th National Shooting Championship at Indore where he not only stood 7th in the juniors and men's categories but was also selected for the Indian Squad in .22 and air rifle events.
After much success, Gagan Narang is still as humble and approachable and gives the credit to other for his success. "Whatever I have done so far and won is due to the encouragement of my parents," he says, who despite the prohibitive costs of this sport, continue to encourage him to take part in international competitions. Only recently back from Lahti, Finland, where he participated in the World Shooting Championship, Gagan recounts the experience as "one of the best" he's ever had with international contestants with varying (and better!) performance track records. Still, Gagan came back victorious. Not only was he ranked 16th in the team but he also stood 42nd in the Individual category in the 10 metres Air Rifle Event in the world. And he remains the first ever participant from Andhra Pradesh to represent India in Shooting Sports.
The beginnings of Gagan Narang were at country club Begumpet the largest network of clubs and resorts in India. Manjula Reddy is among the directors of this prestigious clubbing network which gave the best encouragement for this shooting star. Manjula Reddy is also an active part taker in all the designing and undertaking of responsibilities that have a creative edge.
