Uses And Types Of Aftermarket Auto Parts

Aftermarket Auto Parts

People are always looking to customize their things to more suit their needs and tastes. One of the most customized objects is the automobile. The way this is accomplished is by the addition of aftermarket auto parts to their vehicle in addition to replacing already existing parts with aftermarket auto parts. Some parts are merely for performance, some for changing the look and sound of the vehicle, and some do both. There are aftermarket auto parts for everything about your vehicle such as having a different steering wheel, a different knob on your gear selector, adding a turbocharger, adding gauges to monitor different aspects of your vehicles performance, kits to change the shape of the car's body, and anything else you could want to customize about your vehicle.

Racing Auto Parts

One of the most popular uses for aftermarket auto parts is in the motor sport industry. This is due partially because many types of aftermarket high performance parts are illegal for use on public roads, but mostly because the addition of aftermarket parts can greatly improve the performance of a vehicle. This allows people to get the most out of their vehicles and get an advantage on the track. This has made aftermarket auto parts invaluable to the motor sport industry. In fact, aftermarket parts are so common in racing that races that comprise only of vehicles that have no aftermarket racing parts is its own sub genre of racing, known as stock car racing.

Performance Parts for Street Use

The other use of aftermarket auto parts is the use of street legal aftermarket auto parts. These parts are split up into performance auto parts and replacement auto parts.

These performance auto parts are known as aftermarket parts and are made to increase some aspect of your vehicles performance while keeping it street legal. However, vehicles built for racing may still use parts that are street legal and many completely street legal cars are used for racing. One of the most common street legal performance aftermarket auto parts is the turbocharger. The turbocharger is a device that uses the exhaust gases to power a compressor which compresses air and sends it to the engine. This allows more air to enter the engine per piston stroke, which gives the engine more power. Another popular aftermarket auto part is the addition of a high performance muffler. Stock mufflers slightly slow down exhaust gases exiting the engine. This produces unwanted back pressure going into the engine. This can lower the power of your engine and thus your cars performance in general. High performance mufflers reduce this unwanted back pressure while still muffling the engine noise to a level that is acceptable for use on public roadways.

The replacement auto parts are non-OEM parts made to replace existing parts if they begin to malfunction or are broken completely. Examples of such include if your headlights go out or if your power window begins to malfunction. The reason for buying the non-OEM aftermarket replacement auto parts are usually simply because they are cheaper. This has caused a good amount of controversy because insurance companies have a history of buying the cheapest replacements they can find, and thus usually buy ineffective parts.
