Botox- some facts

Botox is derived from a bacterium called clostridium blotulinum'. It has been used to treat thousands of patients safely and successfully over the past 20 years. Botox usage is both medical as well as cosmetic. It is a commonly performed cosmetic treatment for frown lines worldwide and the most popular non-surgical procedure for eliminating frown lines by slowing down the movement of muscles.

How does botox work on frown lines?

Frown lines are caused by constant squinting or frowning. These lines are also called the glabellar muscles and they appear between the eyebrows every time you squint or frown. After many years of this, the lines get etched into the skin of the forehead and starts making you look older. By getting rid of frown lines you can dramatically decrease the effects of aging from your face.

Where once this meant cosmetic surgery, now all that is required is a shot of botox cosmetic injection in a matter of minutes and you're done (look younger) during your lunch break! Botox paralyzes the muscles controlling the frown lines. This means that the muscles are unable to contract because the chemical responsible for signaling the contraction is inhibited by botox thereby preventing the frown lines from forming.

It is a great way of getting rid of all those unsightly grooves and lines on the forehead which make you look perpetually annoyed or disturbed. Botox is injected into the corrugator and the procerus muscles (responsible for horizontal frown lines) slowing down the movement of the muscles.

Treatment Duration

Botox injections involve very little discomfort and the treatment is individualised to the person's anatomy and aesthetic requirements. The procedure is very short (maybe not more than 10 minutes).

Extremely fine needles are used to inject botox. Results are visible within a few days and the effect can last up to 4 months. Botox is not a permanent solution and may require several sessions before the effects last longer. A gap of at least 3 months is recommended between each session and although side effects are known to be almost negligible, some people may experience headache or nausea for some time. Any unusual facial pain must be immediately reported to a Botox practitioner. For first-time patients the dose should be lower in the beginning with a reassessment after 3 months. In the hands of a qualified practitioner Botox will erase those frown lines and improve your looks considerably.
