Combining Women's Boots With Autumn Dresses

The change in season from summer to autumn means one thing for women's fashion- time to break out the boots! This season, be prepared to see all styles of boots. A plethora of colours, materials, styles, and lengths have hit the runway recently, and the variety will most certainly be seen gracing the streets as well as the catwalk this autumn! How do you know which style will be best suited for your ensemble?

Short Dresses

If the women's boots you're looking for are to compliment a short dress, or a skirt then keep the boot around ankle height. Dresses and skirts that sit on the upper part of the leg or thigh are best complimented by a short boot. While you may be tempted to wear calf high or taller boots- don't! It rarely looks good, and in fact can appear quite tacky. Keep them around ankle height only, but don't be afraid to glam up your look with a bold colour. For example, if your dress is a charcoal grey or black, consider brightening things up by wearing a red boot, or even blue. Use accessories to complete the look and pull it all together.

Mid Length Dresses

A mid length skirt or dress will give you the most leeway in terms of choosing appropriate women's boots. A mid length dress is one that falls at or close to the knees. With these dresses you'll find that a calf high boot can be worn quite tastefully, or you can show off your legs by sticking to an ankle length boot. Both of these will work equally well in this situation. If you're looking for a way to dress up the look, or add a little glamour, opt for the details in the boots instead of making a bold statement with a bright colour, as you would in a short dress. Since the fabric of this length dress will likely fall close to or be touching the boot if you choose to go with a calf length boot, you'll want to avoid bright, bold colouring. Instead, opt for a boot that has detailed stitching or delicate details. If you have opted for the ankle length boots, you can still use a bold colour with this length skirt.

Long Dresses

Long dresses allow you to freely choose what style and length of boot you wear. The material of the dress covers up most of the boot, so you can wear what feels most comfortable. But do bear in mind that the tips and heels of your boots may peek out! So make sure you're wearing boots that match your outfit. Choosing a thin or spiked heel here can increase the femininity of your ensemble, or a chunkier heel can make the ensemble more casual in appearance. It's a good idea to stick to subdued colours as the dress will be the key feature of the outfit. Use accessories to enhance your desired style, and you'll be runway ready with fall fashion in no time at all!
