Christmas Treats To Make With Your Grandchildren

Christmas is a wonderful opportunity to bond with grandchildren of all ages. One can bond with children through a shared love of the holiday spirit and all the yummy treats that go along with it. Even better, collaboration in the creation of delectable treats can teach kids valuable lessons in coordination, patience, and teamwork, if you so choose to highlight these traits. You can create beloved holiday characters such as Santa, elves, or the reindeer or you can introduce traditional flavors that are specific to the holidays, such as gingerbread or sugar cookies. Most of all, remember your main goal is to have fun with your grandchildren and strengthen a bond that will last for years to come.

Here are a few favorite treats to try out:

Gingerbread Men/House: Everyone loves gingerbread, and you can help your grandchildren build an intricate gingerbread house, ripe with gumdrops, frosting, or whatever your little charges hearts desire for their decorating purposes. Working with a younger set of hands or lack the time needed for a large project? Break out your cookie cutters and cut out some gingerbread men. The decorating potential is still there, and if you have animal cookie cutters, you can make some pets, for those yummy figures.

Stained-Glass Cookie Ornaments: Sugar cookies are in every holiday cooks repertoire. But did you know you can take those cookies, poke/cut-out holes on the top of them, thread some yarn through them and make ornaments for your Christmas tree? Tips to make successful ornaments include keeping your sugar cookie cut-outs small enough so they wont be too heavy, letting the chosen frosting dry before hanging, and most of all, letting little imaginations choose any shape they like!

Snowman Cupcakes: These treats can be deceptively easy to make or as intricate as you are willing to extend yourself. For little hands, the best bet is to decorate your standard cupcake with white frosting, place different size marshmallows on top to create the body of the snowman, use a candy corn and some chocolate sprinkles for the eyes and nose, and place an choc-covered espresso bean on top for the hat. Voila!

You can easily create a solid tradition with your grandchildren every year at Christmas by working with them to create yummy, holiday-themed treats for all to share. Children love to create, and will love partaking in their creations even more. You can use the same recipes every year or swap out for new and exciting creations each time. Over all, enjoy the time you spend creating a beautiful, practical bond with your grandchildren.
