Stress Management 101: Are The Holidays Draining Your Joy?

The holiday season is supposed to be the most wonderful time of the year. Many people spend months longing for this season to arrive. But when it does arrive, they are left astounded with the amount of pressure and stress that this season can give.

It is time to bring back the joy to your holiday season. Learn how to manage your holiday stress with these simple ideas:

1. When hosting parties, plan everything from the clothes you are going to wear down to the meals you are going to prepare.

You should have a list of things to do. People usually forget the important things when they are stressed out. You are more likely to forget the important things if you have a million chores to do. Divide your list into two. Make a list for the urgent things to do and the non urgent things to do. You can also employ the help of your relatives or family members to do some of the chores.

2. Say no to some of the party invites.

Trust me when I say that spending some quality time alone with your family in the quiet comforts of your home is more relaxing than attending a party. If you have already accepted a few party invitations, say no to the rest and promise to attend them next year. Send a polite thank you note to the hosts.

3. Keep everything simple.

A very extravagant holiday season will definitely wear you down. You can just imagine the amount of work it will require for a large tree to set up or a large holiday meal to put together. If you want to attempt a more extravagant holiday party this time, you can try enlisting the help of other party experts to help you out.

4. Avoid the holiday rush by doing errands and chores beforehand.

Try not to get in the thick of the holiday rush. Start shopping for gifts weeks or months before. You can also try getting the items you want online, like those tabletop fountains you've been meaning to buy for your mom, instead of going to physical stores to shop for gifts. More often than not, people end up getting the wrong gifts because they are pressured with the long lines at the counter or they are hard pressed for time.

5. Take a breather.

The whole purpose of the holiday season is to reflect on our spirituality. Everything else is superficial. You can try to hang wall plaques or go over some of your old Christmas photos. You may also want to get out from the hustle and bustle of your life and just take time to reflect on the real meaning of the holiday season.

These are simple methods but they will definitely work in helping you prepare for the holidays. Take them to heart and you will surely make this holiday season memorable!
