subject: Study Abroad Insurance: Enabling Students To Experience Things Sans Worry [print this page]

Traveling internationally for study is not a rare phenomenon anymore. While there are thousands of students traveling to the U.S. to study, there are students traveling from the U.S. to other countries too, typically to study in short-term summer courses. It is best if each set of students is properly insured, either with international student insurance or study abroad insurance, as the case may be.

When American students study abroad, they prefer taking short courses in Europe, a study has found. England, Italy and France are among top destinations for American students in summer. The Study Abroad programs of various schools and colleges arrange for students to have a pleasant stay and study: right from the different culture, to food and accommodation, to ensuring that the students are adequately covered by study abroad insurance.

Study abroad insurance can be purchased from the U.S. itself, and plan features are very similar to a short-term travel insurance plan. However, some features of the plan make it especially suited for students studying abroad.

Study abroad plans such as the Patriot Travel Plan offer a range of maximum benefit limits, for medical expenses. Coverage includes inpatient and outpatient care, and the whole range of related medical care such as prescription drugs, diagnostics, and emergency services.

While medical benefits are the main benefits of a medical insurance plan, other benefits might be even more useful. Plans generally cover short trips made home while studying abroad. Plans pay for emergency medical evacuation and the sending of remains back home, in case of the unfortunate death of the student while abroad. An adventurous sports rider ensures that the outdoors student is still able to have fun.

While most students do not need such cover, some plans do provide cover for the sudden recurrence of a ore-existing condition. Plans might also include travel assistance services and benefits for lost luggage and identity theft.

While the list of benefits is long, there is also some care that is not covered. Some of these are pregnancy, pre-existing conditions, regular doctor visits, dental care (with a few exceptions), and eye care. The plan can be renewed for up to two years, but their best use is for short trips, and that fits in with the pockets and intentions of an international student abroad

The plans can be purchased online within minutes. With its pocket-friendly premium and varied benefits, study abroad insurance is certainly something for a student to pack before he/she leaves home.
